ഇന്ന് സംസ്ഥാന ഗജദിനം. 2017ലെ സെൻസസ് പ്രകാരം 3,067 ആനകൾ കേരളത്തിലെ കാടുകളിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. 2023 ലെ സെൻസസിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ 2500 ആയി.നാട്ടാനകളെ പരിചരിക്കുന്നതിലും നാം പിറകിലാണ്. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ആനകൾ ഉള്ള സംസ്ഥാനം കർണാടകമാണ്, 6050ആനകൾ. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ആകെ ആനകൾ 15,000ത്തിലധികം വരുമെന്നാണ് നിലവിലെ കണക്ക്.
