ശക്തമായ തിരതള്ളലിനെ തുടർന്ന് തിരുവനന്തപുരം വലിയ തുറ കടൽപ്പാലം രണ്ടായി വേർപ്പെട്ടു. ഒരു ഭാഗം പുർണമായും ഇടിഞ്ഞു താഴ്ന്നു. ഇന്ന് രാവിലെ 8 മണിയോടെയാണ് സംഭവം. രണ്ടു വർഷം മുൻപ് പാലത്തിന്റെ കവാടം തിരയടിയിൽ വളഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. ഇത് പുനര്നിര്മിക്കുമെന്ന് അന്നത്തെ തുറമുഖമന്ത്രി അഹമ്മദ് ദേവര്കോവില് പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. എന്നാല് പിന്നീട് നടപടികളൊന്നും ഉണ്ടായില്ല.
